Abstract

This research work examined the impact of electronic banking on medium scale enterprises. The study was guided by four research objectives include amongst others: to examine the extent of the relationship between automated teller machine services and performance of SMEs significance and to find out to what degree is the relationship between mobile banking services and performance of SMEs significance. However, four hypotheses were formulated and tested. The study made use of survey research design. Hence, the statistical tool such as correlation coefficient was employed for this study with the aid of Statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). The study found that automated teller machine services have a significant relationship with performance of SMEs in Lagos State. Also, that mobile banking services has a significant relationship with performance of SMEs in Lagos State. Furthermore, that transaction alerts via SMS have a significant relationship with performance of SMEs in Lagos State and finally that Point-of-sale service has significant relationship with performance of SMEs in Lagos State. Based on the findings of this study the following recommendations were made: that medium enterprises is advised to organize training on internet banking from time to time for the benefit of its customers, this will go a long way to enhance the benefits derived by the bank from electronic banking. Also, the positive results reached are supposed to support, promote and increase attention to the variables of electronic banking and performance of SMEs. It is therefore important that SMEs in conjunction with banks constantly improve and upgrade their e-banking system’s security in order to reduce the security threat to the system.
